Rural Assembly: Design

Project Type: Feasibility Study, Programming

Collaborators: The Coalition of Immokalee Workers

The final output of Rural Assembly is a feasibility study to propose an affordable housing neighborhood for farmworkers in Immokalee, Florida, in collaboration with the CIW (Coalition of Immokalee workers). Designs were developed in conjunction with community workshops, stakeholder meetings, and site research. The proposal incorporated three types of dwellings within a garden landscape, organized around the idea of clustering homes within a network of shared spaces of varying scales. As a model of community driven housing for the area, shared spaces included childcare, gardens, recreation space, playgrounds, laundry facilities, and community meeting rooms.
