Food Futures

Project Type: ACADEMIC, RESEARCH

Collaborators: STUDENTS AT RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL OF DESIGN, AND PRATT INSTITUTE SCHOOL OF DESIGN

AWARDS: TACONIC FELLOWSHIP 2022

Food Futures is an Advanced level architecture studio curriculum that applies urban acupuncture methodology to examine the relationship between urban spaces and food systems. Students learn participatory design and research methods, taking their personal relationships to food as a starting point to further understand successes and failures within larger food systems. Their resulting architectural insertions address topics of generational and culturally specific alternatives to healthy nutrition, equitable community food access, food sovereignty and culinary education.

As of Winter 2023 variations of Food Futures have been taught over three semesters as A+A+A continues to research food systems and work with partners including Collective Food Works, and Flatbush Central Market.
